Nice and friendly staff. The food is very good and cooked on the grill integrated in your dining table.Lunch sets have a good value. Definitely recommended!

The food was excellent. Had the House Specialty. The beef was nicely marbled. Sashimi was fresh. Enjoyed the experience. Staff was incredibly friendly. The boss even bothered to explain to us some of the decor even though she spoke mostly Japanese.

I always come here because the food the atmosphere and the staff are super! My favourite local food restaurant in Takayama. Menu also in english and with pictures and price. Hida beed, hoba miso and other local and delicious food in a really antique like place. This building use to be in Kyoto, they dismantled and rebuilded here since long ago. Kyo-ya infact means the restaurant of Kyoto. For those who cannot seat like japanese on the tatami they also have tables with chairs. Higly recommended! Luca local gide

There is no wait, probably cos it was 3pm or so. Ordered 2 sets of Hida beef which tasted great and filling. You get to grill the beef on a charcoal grill. The shop owner is also very friendly and nice. They taught how each item is suppose to be cooked and eaten. The ambience is really nice too!

Very authentic Japanese restaurant, nice staff nice ambience nice food. My expectation was a bit high due to the reviews but I've tried nicer Hida beef in Nagoya.We ordered a delux hida beef and a luxury set meals, I regret ordering the delux one.

This restaurant features beef from the area. The beef is marbled quite nicely and there are different ways it can be served. We went during lunch so that it wasn't as busy and we could try a smaller portion. Food can be cooked at your own table, or it is served prepared. There were quite a few tourists here, but it did not derail its appeal. Staff is friendly and do speak a little bit of English.

The best Hida Beef!! Try the Hida prime, it is really the culmination of having barbecue meat. The sauce is also second to none. You will be serve by ladies, one of them can speak fluent English. So when you are in Takayama, try this. It's a must.

The house itself deserves a visit to the restaurant, it's an old country house on the river. We were welcomed by a woman who speaks perfect english, all the waiters were so kind. Good quality of food (we had the top two meat cuts and they were delicious) and nice ambience. There are a few tables with a fixed bbq and not the tiny portable ones, which is a plus.

Beautifully authentic place. Staff speaks good enough english and really made us feel welcome. The most important part tough is the food. We tried "prime" and "deluxe" Hida steak which I guess translates to A4 and A5 and it was the best meat we've ever tried, without exaggeration. Cost seems really reasonable too, 4500 for the best quality 150g steak and 2800 for the runner up.

Amazing! We had Hida beef and the Delicious Set meal, which was fish and vegetables, a wonderful and delicious option if you don't eat meat but your party does. The place is beautiful, the staff is super nice and overall the price is good. Definitely a must if you are in Takayama.

The food is amazing! The best I had in Japan, the staff is friendly and try to greet you in your own language. The place looks amazing and had a great atmosphere. Very worthwhile the visit. What are you still reading this for... GO THERE! Oh you might want to make a reservation, just ask your hotelstaff to do so.

My wife is vegetarian and we could have both an excellent meat and vegeterian meal. The staff of the restaurant was friendly and nice. I definetly recommend to stop and have a lunch here.

Great local food! Beef was particularly delicious. Amazing intimate atmosphere with charcoal grill on each table, as if you are sitting around the fire. Welcoming staff! Oh, and homemade apricot wine is a must try for ladies!!!

This is one of the best meal we have in Japan, the host and staff are so nice and kind, they take care of every guest. Hida beef with sake in cold weather is excellent. We called 2 set hida beef bbq and additional meat because the food is too delicious.

While this place is famous for its Hida Beef offering, the other dishes on the menu should not be ignored. For instance, the Spinach Salad with Hida Pork Bacon is one of the unsuspecting highlights on the menu which comes with a flavourful dressing and perfectly done bacon.

The beef is superb! And the interior is so cozy and traditional.

DELICIOUS! I highly recommend this place if you want to experience eating hida beef. One thing I would recommend is to make reservations before you arrive to Takayama. I was fortunate that there was room at the bar area, but when we arrived they were booked. Everything we ordered was very flavorful and the service was amazing. The staff speaks just enough English to get by. I hope to come again and hopefully sit at the tables. The restaurant was so cozy and felt truly Japanese.

Warm and cosy establishment with friendly welcoming staff. Highly recommend that you make a reservation to use the charcoal grill if a table is available. We ordered the luxury beef set (pictured). The beef literally melts in your mouth. The amount of food that came with the set was more than enough for us. Would definitely come back if we are ever in Takayama again.

Easiest 5 star I give. Authentic building and interior, tasteful. Different type of table styles, even some with charcoal :) English speaking stuff and menu. I recommend Hida Beef Deluxe menu(as far as I remember, and have it on charcoal table), amazing and delicious, so far best food I had in Japan! I suggest to make reservation ahead or come around 17:00
